Now, That’s A Compliment!
My daughters and I were walking out of the grocery store when a cheerful stranger smiled and said, “Wow, you all look like triplets!”
Now listen—as a mom, that kind of compliment is gold. I was instantly walking on cloud nine, absolutely glowing. Meanwhile, my daughters were dramatically “suffering” from what they called a knife-to-the-heart compliment 😂. Apparently, looking like your mom is not high praise when you’re a teenager. Who knew?
But here’s the thing: that comment shifted something in me. My body relaxed, my heart opened, and I smiled the whole drive home. That one sentence carried energy, positive, warm, and connecting.
Compliments: Little Bursts of Healing Energy
Compliments are more than just nice words—they’re tiny energy transfers.
When someone offers a sincere compliment, they’re sending high-vibrational energy in your direction. It might hit your heart chakra with a little spark of joy or help you feel seen in a moment when you didn’t even realize you needed it.
One simple example: the other morning, I was in the kitchen going about my usual routine when my son walked in, looked at me, and said, “Mom, that color looks really good on you.” Just like that. No fanfare, just honesty. And something in me lit up. It turned up the energy of the entire morning—and honestly, it carried into the rest of the day. I felt more open, more relaxed, more me.
It doesn’t take much. A “You have such a calming presence” or a “That color looks amazing on you” can do something real. It softens the tension we carry, lifts our mood, and reminds us that we’re not invisible.
Why Compliments Feel So Good (Energetically Speaking)
From an energetic perspective, compliments are an invitation to realignment.
They often:
Raise your vibration by activating feelings of joy, gratitude, and connection
Open your energy field, especially in the heart center, where we hold love, worth, and self-acceptance
Clear stagnant emotions, especially if we’ve been feeling discouraged, unseen, or drained
Even a brief moment of feeling appreciated can bring clarity, confidence, and lightness. It helps us remember who we are beneath the stress of the day.
The Pain of Not Receiving Compliments with Grace
Now, here's the part that’s easy to overlook.
When we reject a compliment, by brushing it off, downplaying it, or deflecting it, we’re not just blocking words. We’re blocking energy.
And that doesn’t just affect us, but it affects the person offering it too.
Have you ever complimented someone and they immediately responded with, “Oh no, I don’t look good,” or “This old thing?” It creates a weird tension, right? Like the connection you tried to build suddenly hit a wall.
When we struggle to receive compliments, it can come from old wounds, beliefs about humility, or discomfort with being seen. But energetically, rejecting a compliment is like refusing a gift, and that can feel awkward or even hurtful to the giver.
Letting compliments land with a simple “Thank you” and allow it to honor both the love being offered and the energy exchange that’s trying to happen.
Giving Compliments: A Spiritual Practice
Here’s the fun twist: giving compliments is just as healing as receiving them.
When you offer someone a sincere compliment, you:
Align yourself with gratitude, which raises your vibration
Train your mind to look for beauty, goodness, and light
Strengthen your energetic connection with others
Become a vessel for healing and joy, without over giving or exhausting yourself
It doesn’t have to be deep or poetic. Just real and with loving intent. “You’re so thoughtful,” “I love your laugh,” or even “I always feel calm around you” can shift the entire energy of a room.
A Simple Invitation
This week, try it out.
Give three unexpected compliments. Real authentic, from the heart compliments.
And when someone gives you one? Just smile, breathe it in, and say, “Thank you.”
Let it land. Let it lift you. Let the energy do what it’s meant to do.
Because the world needs more light, and it starts with something as simple as noticing the good and saying it out loud.
Even if it sounds like, “You all look like triplets.” 😉
