From Doom Scrolling to Disconnection: How Social Media Affects Your Energy

A SuperMama perspective on social media and what it is doing to your energy.

There’s a conversation we need to have—one that isn’t about blame or shame, but about awareness, connection, and coming back to ourselves.

Because the truth is…
we are all in this together.

And right now, many of us are feeling something we can’t quite put into words.

My Relationship with Social Media

I’ve never really been a fan of social media.

Even back when MySpace and Facebook first came out, something in me didn’t quite settle. I would log in and feel… off. Not necessarily overwhelmed at first—but not grounded, not peaceful, not like myself.

So I kept my distance.

Even now, I use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest with intention. I show up to share, to educate, to connect—especially around energy healing and the idea that there are other ways to support our healing beyond mainstream approaches.

But I don’t stay long.

I post… maybe read a thing or two… and then I leave.

Because I’ve learned to listen to how my body responds.

The Moment That Changed Everything

Last Friday, I found myself in a long waiting period—about an hour and a half.

Normally, I come prepared.
A book. A sudoku puzzle. Something to keep my mind engaged without relying on a screen.

But this time was different.

I was tired.
Not just physically… but mentally, emotionally, spiritually.

The kind of tired where even things you enjoy feel like too much.

So I made a choice I don’t usually make.

I opened social media… and I scrolled.

And scrolled.
And scrolled.

For an hour and a half.

What Happened Next

When it was time to leave, I didn’t feel rested.
I didn’t feel entertained.
I didn’t feel “caught up.”

I felt heavy.

Foggy.
Disconnected.
Almost… hollow.

My thoughts were racing, but not in a productive way:

  • comparison

  • pressure

  • “I need to be doing more”

  • “I should be further along”

  • “I need to fix this, change that”

And then I noticed something deeper.

My body hurt.

Not in a vague way—but specifically:

  • my heart area felt tight

  • my left arm ached

  • my hamstring throbbed

  • even my teeth felt sensitive

Everything felt… inflamed. Heavy. Overloaded.

When Awareness Kicks In

Because I’ve spent years tuning into my body and energy, I’ve learned to recognize when something is off.

And this felt very off.

The next day, I had a conversation with a dentist about color and light—something that, at first, seemed completely unrelated.

But it clicked.

He explained how:

  • orange light slows things down and makes them moldable

  • blue light hardens things quickly

And suddenly… it made sense.

Let’s Talk About Blue Light and Energy

Think about what we are constantly exposed to:

Blue light. From screens. All day. Every day.

Now think about this through an energy lens:

If blue light hardens
what is happening to the thoughts, emotions, and patterns we are absorbing while scrolling?

What happens when we consume:

  • comparison

  • fear-based messaging

  • negativity

  • unrealistic expectations

  • constant stimulation

And then… it sticks?

Not just mentally—but physically, emotionally, energetically.

The Bigger Picture (No Judgment, Just Truth)

This isn’t about saying social media is “bad.”

It’s about recognizing what it’s doing to us when we are not intentional.

Because many of us:

  • scroll when we’re tired

  • scroll when we’re overwhelmed

  • scroll when we’re avoiding something

And instead of feeling better…
we leave feeling worse.

Not because we’re doing something wrong—
but because our bodies and energy systems are responding exactly as they’re designed to.

What This Means for Our Minds, Bodies, and Souls

When we are constantly consuming without processing, we begin to:

  • feel disconnected from ourselves

  • lose clarity and focus

  • carry emotions that aren’t even ours

  • feel heaviness without understanding why

  • become desensitized to our own needs

Over time, that adds up.

And many women—especially moms—are carrying more than they even realize.

A Gentle Invitation (Not Perfection)

This isn’t about quitting everything overnight.

This is about awareness.

It’s about asking:

  • How do I feel after I scroll?

  • Is this supporting me… or draining me?

  • What would feel better right now?

Even small shifts matter:

  • setting time limits

  • replacing scroll time with something grounding

  • stepping away when your body says “that’s enough”

You’re Not Alone in This

If you’ve ever felt:

  • heavy after being online

  • overwhelmed for no clear reason

  • disconnected from yourself

You are not broken.

You are aware.

And awareness is where change begins.

Where Energy Work Comes In

Sometimes, it’s not just about “using more willpower.”

Sometimes your system is already overloaded.

That’s where energy work can support you.

It helps you:

  • clear what you’ve absorbed

  • reconnect to your body

  • realign with what actually matters to you

  • feel like yourself again

It’s not about escaping life.
It’s about showing up for it fully grounded and clear.

Final Thoughts

Social media isn’t going anywhere.

But how we engage with it?
That’s something we can choose.

Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
But intentionally.

Because when we take our energy back…
everything shifts.

And the more we each become aware,
the more we help each other do the same.

We really are all in this together.
